Why I'm Proud of Our Hyde Salon Team (And You Should Be Too)

By Brittany Boland, Salon Director
I've been running salons for over eight years, and I can tell you this: finding stylists who actually get it is harder than you'd think. Not just the technical stuff, though that matters, but stylists who understand that sitting in that chair is vulnerable for most people.
When someone comes to me and says "I hate my hair" or "I haven't felt good about myself in months," that's not really about hair. That's about feeling seen, feeling understood, and walking out with something that makes you want to look in mirrors again.
We Don't Do Assembly Line Hair
Here's something that drives me crazy about a lot of salons: they pack schedules so tight that stylists are running between three clients, trying to remember who wanted what. We decided early on that we'd rather do fewer appointments well than cram in more and do them poorly.
So when you book with us, that stylist is yours for the entire appointment. No juggling, no rushing, no "I'll be right back" while your color processes and they start someone else's cut. It costs us money to operate this way, but honestly? I sleep better at night knowing our clients get our full attention.
The People Who Make This Place Work
Let me tell you about a few of our stylists, because they're genuinely some of the most talented people I've worked with:
Barbie Presson has this incredible ability to look at someone's face and just know what will work. She's been doing this for years, and I've watched clients come in feeling defeated and leave looking like they could conquer the world. Barbie doesn't talk much during consultations, she listens. Really listens.
Daisy Gass is our color wizard. I'm not kidding, she can match your natural highlights better than nature did. Clients come back six months later and their color still looks fresh. She has this thing about making sure your hair looks intentional, not overdone.
Megan Bouknight is fearless. If you come in with a Pinterest board full of dramatic changes, Megan's your person. She's got the technical skills to back up the creativity, which is a rare combination. Plus, she's great with nervous clients, she explains everything as she goes.
Joanna Gualotuna gets the practical stuff. She'll ask you how much time you spend on your hair in the morning, whether you're a wash-and-go person or someone who loves to style. Then she cuts accordingly. I love that about her approach.
And I have to mention Bralyn Adams and Savannah Cowart on our front desk. They remember your coffee order, they know your kids' names, and they somehow keep track of everyone's schedules without breaking a sweat. They make this place feel like a place you want to come back to.
What Actually Happens Here
A typical appointment starts with coffee or tea (real coffee, not the burnt stuff some places serve). Your stylist sits down with you, actually sits down, and talks through what you want, what you don't want, and what your hair typically does when you try to style it at home.
We use good products. Oribe, Kerastase, Goldwell, brands that actually make a difference in how your hair feels and how long your color lasts. But honestly, the products are just tools. It's what our stylists do with them that matters.
The scalp massage during your shampoo? That's not just being nice, it's part of the experience. We want you to relax, to feel taken care of, to forget about your to-do list for a couple hours.
Finding Your Person
Look, chemistry between stylist and client is real. Some people click immediately, others need a few appointments to build trust. We get that.
Instead of randomly assigning you to whoever's available, we have this quick survey that helps us figure out which stylist might be the best fit. It asks about your lifestyle, your hair goals, even your personality a bit. Takes two minutes, but it makes a real difference in matching you with someone who gets your vibe.
The Real Talk Part
Running a salon like this isn't the most profitable way to do business. We could pack in more clients, use cheaper products, hire stylists who work for less. But I didn't get into this industry to run a hair factory.
I got into it because I believe that feeling good about how you look changes how you move through the world. And I'm proud that we've built a team that understands that responsibility.
Your hair is the one thing you wear every single day. Shouldn't the people taking care of it actually care about getting it right?
Ready to give us a try? Book online or call us. And if you're nervous about trying somewhere new, just tell us when you book. We get it, and we'll take good care of you.
